Middle Managers Training Series
Presented by the Human Services Coalition
 
A COMPREHENSIVE INTRODUCTION TO THE KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS MIDDLE MANAGERS NEED MOST:
  • Effective supervision of others as well as appropriate "followership"
  • How to lead a team as well as how to be an effective contributor to a team
  • How to integrate their work into the bigger picture aspirations of their organization
  • Managing themselves and their time in ways that make their working and personal lives compatible and sustainable
The series is taught by five Ithaca area teacher/facilitators with many years of experience helping individuals and organizations to improve their work
 
Day One
Introduction  9:00 am - 10:00 am
with Laura Branca, Kirby Edmonds, Nadia Rubaii, Jeff Shepardson, and Karen Fritz
 
An overall preview of the series in which the five teachers will help attendees to understand how the topics are connected.
 
Managing from the Middle, Part One: Situational Leadership  10:00 am - 5:00 pm
with TFC (Training for Change) Associates Kirby Edmonds and Laura Branca
 
The crucial role of the middle managers as the connective tissue of your organization.
 
Day Two
Part of managers’ responsibility is ensuring that those they supervise are doing their jobs well.  
Giving feedback and coaching others in their pursuit of success in the workplace are two ways to make this happen.
Managing from the Middle, Part Two:  Coaching and Delegating  9:00 am – 4:00 pm
with Nadia Rubaii and Jeff Shepardson
 
Day Three
TFC Associates returns for a highly interactive session on the exciting and challenging tasks of recruiting and sustaining an inclusive, multicultural team
Building the Team, Part One: Leading and Engaging All Kinds of People  9:00 am – 4:00 pm
with Laura Branca and Kirby Edmonds

Day Four
Good managers can handle conflict and lead effective meetings.   This session focuses on how  to be proficient at both of these critical tasks.
Building the Team, Part Two:  Managing Conflict and Managing Meetings  9:00 am – 4:00 pm
with Jeff Shepardson and Nadia Rubaii

Day Five
To be most effective, middle managers must learn how to manage time, cope with stress, and strike a good balance between work and life.
Building Your Self:  Finding and Keeping Your Balance  9:00 am – 3:30 pm
with Karen Fritz

Wrap-up  3:30 – 4:30 pm
with Laura Branca, Kirby Edmonds, Nadia Rubaii, Jeff Shepardson, and Karen Fritz
