Job Description
The City of Ithaca is now accepting applications for the position of Youth Medical Care Provider.
 
 
Location: City of Ithaca, NY
Department: Greater Ithaca Activities Center (GIAC)
Classification: Temporary
Salary:  $29.5151/Hour
Duration:  July 2025 thru August 2025
Hours:  Camp hours are 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.  Field trips may require additional work hours.
 
Position Description: The Youth Medical Care Provider is responsible for overseeing the health, safety, and well-being of campers and staff at a municipal day camp or afterschool program serving children aged 5 to 13. Work involves implementing the camp’s written health care plan in compliance with New York State Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) regulations, New York State Department of Health (DOH) standards and/or Tompkins County Health Department guidelines. The incumbent administers direct health services, supervises medication administration, conducts health screenings, manages health records, and ensures the program is prepared to respond to medical emergencies. The work is performed under the general supervision of a designated department administrator, coordinator or director with considerable independent judgment exercised in carrying out day-to-day responsibilities. Supervision may be exercised over other health personnel.

Minimum Qualifications:  Possession of a current, valid New York State license or certification as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Registered Nurse (RN), or higher-level licensed medical professional (Physician Assistant, Nurse Practitioner, etc.). Some programs may require a Registered Nurse or higher-level licensed medical professional for regulatory compliance.
 
Special Requirements:
 
  1. Must maintain current certification/licensure in accordance with New York State regulations.
 
  1. Must complete training and certifications mandated by NYS OCFS and NYSDOH for childcare/day camp medical staff, including but not limited to CPR, First Aid, and Medication Administration Training (MAT), as applicable.
 
Residency Requirements:  There are no residency requirements for this position.
