About
The Tompkins County Workforce Development Board administers federal Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) funds and other funds in a locally planned and controlled manner, providing short and long-term planning for the workforce so companies can grow and expand and build workers’ capacity. Our role is to ensure a trained workforce is available and our residents can pursue meaningful and economically rewarding work. We also serve the business community, providing invaluable partnerships and connections for those seeking employees as well as those seeking work. Some of the matters the Workforce Development Board handles include creating a local plan for workforce development, carrying out analyses of the economic conditions, convening local workforce development system stakeholders, developing career pathways and program initiatives, administering program oversight of federally funded programs, and implementing the budget and administration of those programs.
