Event Description:
While it's difficult to imagine or discuss the possibility of an active shooter within your place of business, one action item that we can do is prepare and protect ourselves and our employees. With that, the Chamber has partnered with Pugh Self-Protection & Combatives to provide a free active shooter training to any Chamber members who wish to participate - so that we may know how to respond properly in any kind of shooter circumstance (whether while working or not).

The active shooter training provided by Pugh is designed to give you the skills necessary to protect yourself. Their proprietary S.O.S.(™) methodology has been shown to be among the safest and most effective ways to handle the active shooter situations that we have become most familiar with.  Here is what they teach…

S.O.S. – for Known Active Shooter Situations.

  • Seek a Safe Area
  • Out of Sight But Within (arm’s) Reach – it is harder for the shooter to use the weapon when you are within their arm’s length
  • Strategically Attack- take the fight to them
Ch.A.D. – For unknown shooters
  • Charge to zero feet (inside arm’s reach)
  • Attack the assailant using violence of action
  • Distract if possible – while charging throw any mobile object at the assailant’s head
Pugh was also approved by GST BOCES in January making their training able to be state funded for New York State public schools.

Their active shooter training includes:

  • Video analysis of actual incidents.
  • Discussions of tactics to maximize survival.
  • Low-stress role-playing scenarios.
  • Information on the typical profile, characteristics, and tendencies of active shooters.
Refreshments will be provided. This training is offered as a part of our LEARN series which is sponsored by Tompkins Community Bank.
