Small Biz, Think BIG - Technology

Small Biz, Think BIG: Session 3 – Technology

You have: passwords, network security codes, client credit card information. They have: hackers, viruses, cookies, trojans. How do you keep your business network and data safe?

It’s the age of invisible information, swirling all around us as we move through our day. When that winged information is sensitive and critical to your business, you need to be sure you’re the only one who’s snatching it out of the air. Most small businesses have one or more of the following elements: wireless networks, PDA’s used by owners or managers, laptops with proprietary information and servers which contain sensitive, even sacred client information. Much of this technology is emerging and evolving quickly. This seminar will give you an immediately usable kit of security tools and methods to protect your data and your business. Simple steps taken now can avoid costly, even mortal damage to your business operations.

Presenter: Alan McCarty,   eCornellAssistant Vice President, Learning Technology, eCornell

Alan joined the eCornell Management Team in 2008 as Assistant Vice President, Learning Technology. His responsibilities include the oversight of daily technology operations, application development, and overall learning technology strategy. His membership on the Management Team allows eCornell to turn ideas into reality through the use of rapid-prototyping and accelerated system design. After initially joining eCornell in 2001, Alan left to work for Sungard Availability Services, but returned in 2006 to lead eCornell’s technology initiatives. Prior to joining eCornell, he held positions in system and network administration, network design and project management at various institutions of higher education.
