Celebrate 100 Years of NYS Parks with an Evening Waterfall Hike!
The Tompkins Chamber & Visit Ithaca received several direct comments and concerns regarding the Taughannock Falls illumination scheduled for later this week. After working with our partners at NYS Parks, we have received the following update this afternoon:
From NYS Parks Regional Director Fred Bonn: "A planned illumination and guided hike at Taughannock Falls State Park for April 18, 19 and 20th has been canceled. Out of an abundance of caution, this regional centennial event is being postponed to avoid disturbing Peregrine falcon, a New York endangered species, nesting at the site this spring. Park staff and the Tompkins County Chamber of Commerce will work on the feasibility of holding it later this year.”
We look forward to celebrating the 100th Anniversary of NYS Parks at a later date, and we appreciate the community's engagement and interest in these events. Thank you for registering for one of the six hikes - we hope that you will do so again when the opportunity allows.
