Session 5: Recruiting a Diverse, Effective Staff

Many organizations have the goal of having a diverse workforce. Yet, in spite of such goals and intentions, in many agencies the workplace demographics remain persistently mono-cultural. Recruiting and keeping a team that also brings a range of identities, experiences, diversity of perspectives, and awareness of community interests is no small achievement. Accomplishing that requires thoughtful strategies and hard work, but the increase in your professional relationships, your organization’s capacity, credibility and relevance are worth the effort. This workshop will help you explore which kinds of diversity you are seeking, reasons why organizations fail at diversity efforts, pitfalls to avoid, the power of relationships and networking, and practical strategies to attract and keep good candidates.

Presented by: Laura Branca, TFC Associates https://tfcassociates.org/about-us

Many Chamber businesses and organizations are asking what they can do to respond to systemic racism, workplace inequities, and exclusionary cultures in the current moment. Several Chamber members have put out public statements regarding racism and issues of equity and inclusion but may not have all of the tools they need to challenge institutionalized forms of discrimination and inequality to build a better world.
