The Family and Community Engagement Specialist role at New Roots Charter School is primarily dedicated to student recruitment in the region, with a particular focus on engaging rural families and communities. In the interest of student retention, the Family and Community Engagement Specialist will support engagement of current students and families.
Under the direction of the Community Engagement and Admissions Coordinator, the Family and Community Engagement Specialist will play a critical role in fostering strong relationships between the school, families, and the wider community to support student enrollment and retention, and to increase awareness of school choice in nearby rural communities. The Family and Community Engagement Specialist will collaborate closely with school leadership, staff, and teachers to implement strategies aimed at attracting new students to the school, while also ensuring that current students and families feel supported and engaged.
Position Term: This is a temporary, grant-funded position for the 2025-26 school year, with anticipated renewal for the 2026-27 school year.
Hours: This is a half-time position, anticipated at 20 hours per week. The position requires a willingness to be flexible with scheduling, as weekend and evening events will be required.
Salary: $23-$25/hour
Benefits: This position is part-time, temporary, and has limited benefits.
Job Responsibilities:
Student Recruitment:

Familiarize yourself with New Roots Charter School’s comprehensive student recruitment plan and enrollment goals and objectives, and collaborate with the New Roots Communications and Enrollment Team in implementing this recruitment plan.

Collaborate with the Community Engagement and Admissions Coordinator to develop and refine strategies to increase awareness of the school in rural communities in the region.

Collaborate with school leadership to identify target populations for recruitment efforts, including underrepresented communities.

Organize and participate in outreach events in the region, including open houses, information sessions, community fairs, and neighborhood meetings, to showcase the school's offerings and advantages.

Cultivate strong relationships with families, community organizations, local businesses, and other stakeholders to promote the school and its programs.

Provide information to prospective families regarding the school's academic programs, family events, enrollment procedures, and available support services.

Utilize various communication channels, including social media, newsletters, flyers, and presentations, to disseminate information about the school and its events.

Track, manage, and analyze recruitment data, including inquiries, applications, and enrollment numbers, to assess the effectiveness of recruitment efforts and identify areas for improvement.

Serve as a liaison between the school and community organizations to leverage resources and support initiatives that benefit students and families.

Uphold the school's mission, values, and policies while representing the school in all interactions in the community.
Family Engagement and Student Retention:

Attend school events for current students and families.

Support Newt’s Family Crew (parent engagement committee) meetings, including attending meetings, soliciting input from members, and addressing concerns or issues raised by families.

Assist in administering family surveys to gather feedback on their experiences with the school, identify areas for improvement, and measure satisfaction levels.

Contribute to analysis of survey data and making recommendations to inform the school’s decision-making and improvement efforts.
Qualifications:

Education and/or prior work experience in fields relevant to the position, including but not limited to education, social work, communications, marketing, advertising, or other related fields.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly and persuasively to different audiences.

High degree of comfort public speaking in front of an audience

Experience working in education, community outreach, or family engagement roles, preferably in a school or nonprofit setting, or other relevant experience.

Demonstrated ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders, including families, educators, and community partners and organizations.

Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously.

Knowledge of marketing and recruitment strategies, including familiarity with social media platforms and other digital marketing tools.

Cultural competency and sensitivity to the needs of diverse student and family populations.

Proficiency with Google Drive.

Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate outreach events and activities.

Access to reliable transportation to travel to various sites in the region.
