The City of Ithaca, NY is seeking qualified applicants for the role of Director of Engineering and Transportation in the
Department of Public Works!
Position Description: This is a managerial position responsible for planning, supervising and directing public works projects for the City of Ithaca. The Director of Engineering and Transportation is also responsible for supervising the Engineering Division and Transportation Division of the Department of Public Works, through planning, managing, supervising and directing engineering program design and building projects, and activities that include project development through construction administration and closeout. The position is responsible for overseeing capital reimbursement recovery activities, including grant administration, eligibility compliance, reimbursement submissions, and coordination with state and federal funding agencies to maximize recovery of eligible project costs for the Department of Public Works. The work is performed under the general supervision of the Superintendent of Public Works with considerable leeway permitted for the exercise of independent professional judgment. Supervision is exercised over the work of subordinate engineering staff. Does related work as required.

- Possession of a bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Science, Architecture, Construction Management, Planning or a related field with similar course curriculum and six (6) years of full-time paid engineering, construction management, architectural design, or public works capital project management experience, or its part-time paid equivalent, at least two (2) years of which must have been in a supervisory capacity; or
- Possession of an associate’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Science, Construction Technology, Architecture or a related field with similar course curriculum and eight (8) years of full-time paid engineering, construction management, architectural design, or public works capital project management experience, or its part-time paid equivalent, at least two (2) years of which must have been in a supervisory capacity.
