Essential Job Functions Overview
With the general supervision of the Program Manager, provides a variety of administrative, coordinating, and monitoring functions; counsels, supports, and aids individuals with Mental Illnesses and Substance Use concerns in skills and activities of daily living. Administrative and coordinating responsibilities can include: Assisting in providing information and site visit coordination; monitoring medication management; coordinating transportation; completing household ordering and purchasing; completing apartment/room inspections; assisting in the orientation, training/education, and coordination of staff schedules; assisting team members with service plan development and implementation. Individual should strive to create a healing environment that respects the perspectives and experiences of the individuals, families, staff and communities we serve by practicing safe, respectful communication as well as respecting individuals’ boundaries and differences.
Essential Job Function in Residential Setting:
- Provide daily support and supervision to Coordinators and Housekeeping staff including, but not limited to, orientation and training of new staff, on-going assessment of staff development needs, and recommendations of appropriate resources to meet those needs
- Provide general oversight to program staff in the absence of the Program Manager
- Prepare staff schedules, interview and hire new staff
- Provide regular and constructive feedback to staff and conduct performance reviews
- Provide guidance and support to staff through participation in the Residential on-call rotation
- Conduct skills training in group and individual settings utilizing evidence-based practices
- Conduct assessments and develop individualized services plans
- Develop and maintain a structured daily schedule for residents based upon individual goals and preferences
- Assist residents in monitoring progress on stated goals and provide updates regularly
- Provide individual counseling, training, and assistance
- Monitor systems around staff oversight of medications
- Maintain group order and manage conflicts and crises appropriately
- Maintain complete and accurate documentation according to organization policies and procedures
- Communicate with appropriate necessary service providers
- Actively participate in required meetings, in-service training, and other continuing education opportunities
- Know and adhere to all OMH/other agency regulatory policies and procedures
- Manages an on-call phone in a rotation with Program Managers and Rehab Coordinators.
- Provide additional responsibilities as assigned by the Program Manager.
Experience, Education, & Physical Qualifications
High School Diploma with five (5) years of relevant experience or an associate’s degree in human services or related field with three (3) years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience; one (1) year of residential experience preferred. Supervisory experience preferred. NYS Driver’s License as driving is an essential function of the position.
Knowledge:
General knowledge and understanding of Mental Health issues, Substance Use concerns and the Psychiatric Rehabilitation model; psychology, personality, and group dynamics; principles and practices of conflict and crisis management, adult learning, motivation, interpersonal communications, household management; independent living skills; the Human Services system; use of motivational interviewing to engage individuals; positive philosophy toward wellness/recovery and trauma informed care.
Skills and Abilities:
Use of contemporary office equipment, particularly a computer with word processing, database and report generating software; to communicate effectively with diverse individuals and to record notes as needed; to listen, understand, and appreciate the experience of residents; to establish rapport and meaningful professional relationships with residents; to persuade, negotiate and resolve conflicts; to work effectively under stress; to provide positive role modeling; to inspire respect, confidence, and trust in clients and co-workers; to respect and maintain appropriate confidentialities; to effectively encourage residents toward greater self-sufficiency; to perceive and describe changes in behavior; to generate and maintain accurate records and reports as required; to seek, accept, and learn from peer and supervisor feedback; to manage multiple tasks and changing priorities; to plan and implement strategies consistent with client needs and overall organization goals, objectives, and standards; to meet deadlines regularly.
