JOB TITLE:                         Kitchen Product Assistant

JOB SUMMARY:              The Kitchen Production Assistant participates in the facilitation of all aspects of meal prep, service and clean up. They help to direct about twenty diverse volunteers each day as well as visit with guests and, when needed, will provide basic support and practical assistance to guests and volunteers. This is a 30 hour per week, benefits eligible position.
 
 
RESPONSIBILITIES:
 

Food Service Operations:

 

  • Collaborates with Receiver and Operations Manager to plan daily menus that incorporate donations and reduce food waste
  • Prepares meals with volunteer assistance
  • Trains and supervises kitchen volunteers in quantity cooking and  use of food service equipment
  • Maintains sanitary conditions in the kitchen that comply with safe food handling practices as required by the Health Department
  • Assists in the general care of the Church and its surroundings as required by the Jubilee Agreement
  • Oversees and maintains kitchen cleanup and equipment maintenance standards and practices
  •  Maintains a list of ongoing kitchen needs and communicates food and supply needs to the Operations Manager
  • In absence of Receiver, receives food donations or orders and maintains related records
 
 

General Operations:

 
  • Assists staff with oversight of practical support, behavioral and crisis intervention with guests
  • Works with all staff to ensure security and cleanliness of building facilities and supplies
  • Attends regular team meetings and occasionally other L & F meetings and training courses as required
  • Complies with the Letter of Understanding with St. John's Church (Jubilee Agreement)
  • Participates in occasional fundraising, PR or special events and holiday meals as requested
  • Assists staff in making sure volunteers abide by the Loaves & Fishes’ Volunteer registration process, Volunteer Guidelines/Rules and Community Agreement and Anti-Discrimination and Anti-Harassment Policy.
  • Interacts with guests and fulfills their requests, as appropriate, within our meal service time.
  • Assists staff with regular oversight of guests and volunteers in all areas of the church building and property
  • Informs Operations Manager and/or other Loaves & Fishes’ staff as soon as possible about any guest or volunteer difficulties, crisis situations, or incidents.
  • As much as possible ensures that volunteers feel appreciated for their volunteer service and their specific contributions to our daily operation, feel they have choices about how they contribute to our service and experience a welcoming, meaningful, and fun environment 
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
 
  • Ability to work cooperatively with staff, guests and volunteers toward the fulfillment of Loaves & Fishes Mission
  • Sociable, friendly, demeanor with excellent customer service skills
  • Flexibility and sound judgment
  • Ability to accept directions and to work independently
  • Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs. up and down stairs
  • Ability to maintain a high energy level requiring physical strength and stamina
  • Ability to be well organized in planning meals and preparing them with volunteers and other staff.
  • Ability to have ample nutritious meals ready on time each day
  • Ability to lead, teach and to direct volunteers
  • Experience and ability to work with volunteers with a variety of ages, abilities, ethnicities, and sexual and gender identities
  • Experience in non-judgement communication and behavioral management
  • Knowledge of and experience in food service management including: use of equipment, kitchen procedures and Health Department regulations
  • Experience cooking in large quantities
  • Experience in conflict management preferred
  • ServeSafe or National Environmental Health Association (NEHA) equivalent certified
